A BREAST cancer sufferer has started legal action against Barnsley hospital over alleged botched operations.
Raleys Solicitors has another eight pending claims for compensation from women with breast cancer who have had operations at the hospital.
A number of patients have sought legal advice and there are at least a further 13 women being represented by other law firms.
Raleys is the first to issue court proceedings and they relate to three operations on the same woman which were carried out between October 2003 and April 2005.
Solicitor Michelle Gyte said: “The woman in this case underwent a mastectomy and a breast reconstruction. She then needed a reduction on her healthy breast so it was the same size as the reconstructed breast.
“My client has experienced numerous problems related to all three operations and remains in a considerable amount of pain and distress today - to the extent that she has been put on antidepressants.”
