Paul Heckingbottom said he would 'focus on the positives' after his side battled through a difficult first half to earn a 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
The home side were on top for the first half, taking the lead through Adam Reach's fortunate opening goal, but Barnsley replied in a much-improved second half with Harvey Barnes' superb long-range equaliser.
Heckingbottom said: "I am pelased with a point. I always want three but we have to take that in the end with the start we had. We started on the backfoot and individuals know they didn't carry out instructions. It took a lot to take that around and the determination, running power and willingness to put bodies on the line is what got us back into the game then we more than matched them.
"It shows a lot about the character of our players and they had to take a lot of credit. There were lots of things wrong but there were lots of good things too and they are what we are going to focus on while also trying to improve."
Heckingbottom credited the change from 4-4-2 in the first half to five in midfield after the break for helping his side earn a point.
"We've been working hard on the 4-4-2 but we got loads of stuff wrong in it. we looked a threat on the counter but then we got countered back and, when we lost possession, we were wide open. There were too many things wrong. We were better in the 4-1-4-1 and it lets us get more players in the box. We had to make that change."
Heckingbottom praised Barnes for his goal but wants him to add to his game. The Reds boss said: "It was a great goal. We know he can do that and we're trying to add other things to his game like left-foot finishes and finishes from crosses. His goals are all the same and there is more to come from him."
