REV Neil Redeyoff is pulling out all the stops to find an organ powerful enough for Darfield’s Christmas carol singers.

He is expecting a congregation of about 300 at All Saints Church for the Carols by Candlelight service on the Sunday before Christmas. He is worried the electric keyboard filling in for the organ is not powerful enough to accompany them.

He said: “When you get 300 people together singing their hearts out to Hark the Herald, you need a bit of oomph behind it.

“At the moment, all we’ve got is a little Yamaha electric piano and it’s horrendous.”

The church organ was ruined when vandals stole lead from the roof and rain poured in during the week of the summer floods. It is estimated the repair will cost about £80,000 and will take many months.

The total repair bill for all the damage to the organ and roof is estimated at up to £150,000.
