YELLOW zigzag lines painted outside High View School are not yet enforceable in law even though the area forum meeting was told they were.
The police sergeant for Wombwell Safer Neighbourhood Team is frustrated that there are no powers to enforce them.
The lines were put down in November to stop cars parking on or around the school’s entrance. The area forum meeting on December 17 was told the lines were enforceable and tickets would be issued. But a council spokesman confirmed this is not the case.
Sgt Phil Jenkins said: “I’m disappointed and a bit annoyed that the things we have been discussing for months are still not finalised in place.
“From our point of view, people are saying we have a duty to enforce these zigzag lines. We want to get out there and do it. But we can’t do it if they’re not legal.
“We will still go up there and if anyone is physically causing an obstruction we will deal with it. But we can’t enforce these lines. We will be able to eventually but at the moment it’s really is quite frustrating.”
