NEW street lighting has left home-owners in the dark after the council turned off the old lamps before rewiring the new ones.

The blunder has annoyed residents on Clough Road, Hoyland who felt the new lighting is a waste of tax payers’ money as there was nothing wrong with the old fixtures.

Ian Cutts, 59, said the new post had been moved to outside his bedroom window for no apparent reason.

He said: “Me and my neighbours are up in arms about it. They said it’s in a better position but I have lived here for 25 years and it was perfect.

“The council said it will be three weeks until it will be lit because they have overlooked that one on the job sheet. We don’t know what it will be like when it’s turned on but it’s right between the two houses.”
