A BARNSLEY actor who turned his hand to directing is to have his new film shown at the Cannes Film Festival.
Kenny Doughty, 32, originally from Wortley, directed the short film You Me and Captain Longbridge, which was filmed around Barnsley at several locations including Penistone Grammar School, last year.
But he hasn't turned his back on his thespian roots and will be appearing in the Channel 4 drama Shameless for the next three weeks.
His mum Julie Saunders said: "I'm used to seeing him on the TV now, but five or six years ago I would get so giddy. He hasn't told me what his character in Shameless will be getting up to.
"He has done so well, the new film is fantastic. I have seen more of him than usual recently because he has been filming in Barnsley and Manchester so it has been nice."
