AN ENERGY tariff dedicated to Barnsley people has been launched just two weeks after a technical glitch forced a delay in the service aiming to help lift people out of fuel poverty or protect them from it in the first place.
Barnsley Council, in partnership with energy provider Great North Energy, launched the new energy tariff which is dedicated to the residents of Barnsley.
Any resident with a Barnsley postcode is entitled to receive a free no-obligation quote to find out how much they could save. Residents can start the switch process from their current supplier onto the Barnsley Energy Tariff immediately.
The council says reducing fuel poverty is a key ambition. With the ‘big six’ energy companies dominating the market the council hopes the new tariff will help lift local residents out of fuel poverty or stop them falling into it in the first place by offering fairer, transparent and consistently competitive prices.
Coun Roy Miller said: “We’re delighted to be joining forces with not-for-profit energy provider, Great North Energy, to offer our residents the Barnsley tariff. Great North Energy shares the council’s ethos of putting the customer first - at the heart of everything we do - so we really look forward to working in partnership with them to bring the tariff to our residents.
“We’re switching all our council houses to the new tariff when there is a change of tenant and really would like to encourage all residents to get a quote and find he right deal for them. It’s important to note that the Barnsley tariff is not just about immediate savings - it’s about residents being treated fairly year after year, no hidden costs or sudden price hikes at the end of a fixed period.
“It’s about transparency and helping vulnerable residents who need support and reassurance in switching to a trusted supplier that puts the customer first every time.”
Richard Smith, project lead for Great North Energy, said: “Following its introduction to the market in November 2017, we are proud that the brand has grown and is now being promoted as Barnsley Council’s preferred energy provider for residents - just 12 months after its launch. By introducing a locally named tariff this helps to reinforce the benefits to people living in Barnsley.
