A PEDESTRIAN who was killed while crossing Huddersfield Road early on Sunday has been named by police.

Gary Glymond, 18, was knocked down by a silver Vauxhall Vectra at about 3am, the driver, 25, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The Vectra was travelling towards town and the fatal smash occurred near the junction with Rowland Road.

Several vehicles stopped and police officers would like to speak to two men in a white private hire taxi and a female nurse who gave first aid at the scene.

The black cab was approaching the roundabout outside Athersley leisure centre and the cab's driver, 21, called for an ambulance.
