A BARNSLEY musician is to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in July as part of the BBC Proms series of concerts.

Rachael McShane, 25, originally from Penistone, is a member of folk band Bellowhead which will top the bill at the finale to Folk Day.

She said: "I think it's the first time they've had a folk day. It's really quite exciting to be playing at the Royal Albert Hall."

Rachael was the first winner of Barnsley's 'Young Musician of the Year' organised by the Performing Arts Development Service (PADS) in 2001.

Bellowhead received the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for best live act for the third time this year. Rachael plays cello, fiddle and sings in the 11-piece group. The concert on July 20 will be broadcast live on Radio 3 and on television on BBC 4.
