PUPILS at Kirk Balk found the body of a security guard in the school ground - but it was only a simulation.

The school has become the third in the country to take part in a week-long crime investigation exercise.

The project, organised by external company CIS Workshops, started with the discovery the body, after which pupils had to investigate to find out which member of staff was responsible.

The team set up an incident unit and pulled in staff for fingerprints and interviews while a news team put out daily bulletins to the school using newspapers and interactive whiteboards.

Pupils involved had to apply for the roles and were selected after interview.

Assistant head Steve Creek said: “The kids have really enjoyed it and it’s taught them a lot of useful skills.”
