A BIRDWELL grandmother reached new heights when she climbed two snow-covered Derbyshire peaks and made a tandem paraglide flight at the back of her son.

Christine Walton has been living with breast cancer for four years and has raised almost £8,000 for Weston Park cancer research programme through garden parties at her Worsbrough Road home.

But Christine, 72, took her 'thankyou' fund-raising to a new level when she climbed Bradwell Edge, strapped herself behind her Tankersley Fire Station fire-fighter son, Andrew, and launched herself into the blue with assistance from Derbyshire Soaring Club members.
