A BLAZE and a series of explosions which destroyed a car workshop and led to the evacuation of 15 nearby residents may be linked to other arson attacks.

More than 30 fire-fighters tackled the fire which started at the Total 4 X 4 garage on Pitt Street, Darfield, early on Tuesday.

A 200-metre cordon was put in place due to the risk of further explosions from gas cylinders on the premises and families were evacuated.

A Fire Brigade sokesman said it was not possible to say what caused the fire or whether it was suspicious but a full investigation would take place.

But police think the fire is linked to four arson attacks on motor vehicles which took place within 30 minutes of the garage on Oxford Street, Wombwell Lane, Doncaster Road and Sheaf Court.
