GOLDTHORPE residents are stepping up the fight to protect their homes and their livelihoods as the council plans to demolish properties.

A public meeting on Tuesday night agreed to form a committee, meet on a monthly basis and ask local councillors for their support.

About 40 people including private tenants, council tenants and private landlords met at the Reform Club, because they feel they have been left in limbo.

Danny Lee urged residents to stick together adding: "We realise it is going to happen and we have got to stick together. They want the houses as cheap as possible and if we fragment and go our own way they will get them."

Coun Bill Newman said: "It will be a major move forward for our ideas of regeneration for the area and put that whole community in a much more sustainable position for the future."
