A WOMAN accused of throttling her lesbian lover after a drunken row over money was heard trying to wake her up during a 999 call.

Beverley McManus rang the emergency services after she allegedly strangled partner Margaret Desmond with a pink dressing gown cord at their home on Hall Street, Hoyland.

A recording of the conversation was played at Sheffield Crown Court during which McManus, 47, told the operator that Margaret had come home and collapsed early on August 10.

She said: "I don't know what has happened. She's just come in now, she's absolutely comatose. "I can't seem to waken her. She just collapsed on the floor."

McManus denies murder. She told police she could not remember fighting with Ms Desmond. The trial continues. Full story in this week's Chronicle.
