CONTROVERSIAL contraceptive implants which last three years should be used to cut the number of girls getting pregnant, a council committee has recommended.
The number of underage pregnancies in Barnsley has not dropped despite ten years of efforts. A council report says: "There has been progress in Barnsley in reducing the conception rate of under-18 from 64.6 per thousand in 1998 to 49.7 in 2006 - a 17.5 per cent reduction, which is the fourth best performance in Yorkshire.
"However, the under-16 conception rate has had no significant reduction."
