KIDS across the Dearne had fun in the snow this week when they took advantage of school closures. Phoenix Park in Thurnscoe became the site for sledging and snowball fights as Barnsley was hit by the worst snow in 18 years. Schools closed yesterday lunchtime as road conditions deteriorated. Dearne High was the first to send pupils home closing at 10am and Dearne Carrfield, Goldthorpe Primary and Highgate followed from 11.30am. All four of Wath's primary schools also shut. Just Heathergarth remained open. Schools first fell foul of the weather on Monday, with the closure of Dearne High, Dearne Carrfield, Goldthorpe Primary, Gooseacre, Heathergarth and Thurnscoe's The Hill . On Tuesday Dearne High, Dearne Carrfield, Goldthorpe Primary, Goosacre, Heathergarth and The Hill remained closed, Highgate and Lacewood joining them later.
