BARNSLEY showed off its flower power yesterday as Yorkshire in Bloom judges came to town.
The panel was taken on a tour of the town's most colourful displays for the spring assessment of the regional competition.
Displays in the town centre precinct, Cannon Hall park and gardens, Birdwell community gardens, Worsbrough Mill and park and the wildflower bank on Thicket Hill, Worsbrough were viewed.
Judges also paid a visit to Ardsley after an invite from members of the Ardsley in Bloom committee.
Face of Barnsley winner Annie Violet Holmes, 16, said she thought Barnsley had an excellent chance of winning the contest.
"The displays are really beautiful," she said.
"I think we should definitely win this year. I have my fingers crossed for us."
Barnsley is up against Leeds, Bradford, Hull and York in the 'city' category. The judges will return in summer for the next stage of the assessment.
