A RUGBY match is being held to remember a former pit worker from Darton who died in an accident last year.
The Don Cook Memorial Match has been organised by the Yorkshire area of the National Union of Mineworkers.
Don, who came from Darton, died aged 50 after an accident in Kellingley Colliery last year when a roof in a seam gave way.
The former local lad had worked for many years before that at Woolley Colliery pit and still had a lot of friends and family across the town.
The game takes place next Wednesday and is free to attend but visitors are being asked to dig deep at a prize draw and auction taking place afterwards to raise cash for a replacement minibus for Thornycroft Disabled Miners Centre in Pontefract.
Chris Skidmore, Yorkshire NUM chairman, said Don was a great man and a stalwart union member who is sadly missed.
