PENISTONE Grammar School will keep its name when it is replaced with a £30 million super-school.
The governors met last month to discuss the Advanced Learning Centre's title but the debate became heated when they could not reach a unanimous decision on whether it should include the word 'grammar'.
But at last week's meeting they finally decided the name should remain as Penistone Grammar School, despite the fact it has been a comprehensive school since 1957.
A joint statement by the school and governors said: "To change the name of a school the law requires a unanimous vote in favour of the proposal by the full membership of the governing body
"The outcome of a meeting of the governing body held to discuss the name of the Advanced Learning Centre being built in Penistone as part of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme was to keep the existing name."
