BARNSLEY Council leader William Brown has signed a letter calling for councils to have the power to reject illegal migrant placements.
The letter, signed by Coun Brown and 23 other Reform UK council leaders, was sent to Prime Minister Andy Burnham this week.
The letter urges the government to honour its promise to devolve power by allowing councils and local communities to have the final say over the housing of illegal migrants in their areas.
A Reform spokesperson for the Barnsley branch said: “We believe local people deserve a voice in decisions that directly affect their communities.
“Power back to local communities.
“Secure our borders.
“Put local people first.”
