THE family of tragic Amber Worth is delighted after their two-and-a-half year fight for justice moved a step closer yesterday.
Willowgarth pupil Amber was 13 when she was crushed to death at a quarry owned by Carlton Main Brickworks Ltd.
She had walked into the Grimethorpe quarry with friends in April 2007 and was playing on a stockpile of sandstone blocks when it collapsed. She became trapped under a half-tonne block and died at the scene.
Amber's family is still battling for justice. They were delighted yesterday when the company pleaded guilty at Barnsley Magistrates' Court to breaching health and safety rules by failing to provide a suitable barrier around the boundary of the quarry.
When presiding magistrate Michael Marks said the court had 'insufficient powers' to prosecute a number of family members in the public gallery shouted, "yes!". The company will now appear before a judge at Sheffield crown court next month.
