A group of investors is looking at spending millions of pounds on reopening a disused coal mine in Barnsley.
It follows an approach to a former British Coal pit manager who is now a mining engineer and consultant with international connections.
He suggested the site as there are still substantial reserves at Kendal Green, which was last worked in the 1950s.
The London-based says that a profit of £10 per tonne would make the pit viable at a time of rapidly rising fuel prices.
It's not clear how many men would be employed on production or whether there would be sufficient mining expertise in this country capable of reopening a coal mine.
Where would the proposed pit be opened? Find out in this week's Chronicle.
