IT'S 100 years since Thomas Armin won the British Open All-Comers Live Pigeon Shooting Championships which took place at Notting Hill, London, on April 4, 1910.
Thomas, who was born in 1888, lived at Hoyle Mill and his prize was a solid silver trophy about 18 inches high and a cash reward of £100, a magnificent sum of money a century ago.
He beat 102 other contestants to bring the trophy to Barnsley. This is the last recorded live open pigeon shooting competition to be held in the country.
Thomas, who died in 1948 aged 60, practised his shooting skills in the Hoyle Mill area from being a young man.
