THE Kendray Hotel will be bulldozed to make way for an old folk’s home. It closed at the end of January due to falling sales.
This week Irish-based owner Fergal O’Gara applied for permission to demolish the boarded-up building and build a 50-room care home on the Birk Avenue site.
It has been the focal point of the estate for many years and at one time was ‘the place to be’, said former regular Coun Fred Clowery. But changing management, bad behaviour and changes in drinking habits resulted in the boozer’s decline.
