A NEW film about the 1984 miners’ strike, Dole not Coal, will get its Yorkshire premiere at Wortley Hall next week.

Archive footage and interviews with local miners and politicians are featured in the film by Sheffield-based Compress Media.

It will be broadcast at Wortley Hall on November 19 at 6pm and is the inaugural evening in a series of left-wing films to be shown.

Former MP Mick Clapham and Keith Brookes will speak after the showing. Brian Clarke, political secretary at Wortley Hall, said: “We are proud to show this important film and delighted that over half of the tickets have already gone.”
