A CARE home manager who stole £20,000 from vulnerable residents spent it on a trip to Russia and on an electric bed.

Sheffield Crown Court heard how Christine Dawber, 55, of Wentworth View, Hoyland, began raiding the accounts of 15 residents of Lindhurst Lodge in Athersley, Rosehill House in Dodworth and Hunningley Grange in Stairfoot in September 2008 to aid a failing pub business she ran with her husband.

The majority of the cash was stolen from two elderly brothers, Maurice and Ellis Newsome, who had been in care since they were five and have since died.

Dawber was sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment on three counts of fraud.
