THE withdrawal of grass cutting and maintenance of bowling greens will be discussed at the annual meeting of Barnsley Crown Green Bowling Association next week.
The council plans to cut all maintenance to bowling greens due to the £26m shortfall in its finances. The proposal is to hand the responsibility for maintaining bowling greens to the individual clubs, but clubs say most members are elderly and not in a position to do the work. Colin Ingram, secretary and treasurer of the association, said: “We want to address every possible angle, and see if there’s anything at all we can do to stop this happening.”
The full annual meeting will be held at New Lodge WMC at 7.30pm on Wednesday where the results of the meeting with the council will be fed back to those who attend.
