BUILDERS have had their contract to install play equipment in Wombwell postponed after yobs broke into their storage yard and pelted workers with stones.
The workers were carrying out improvements on the Summer Lane playing fields when the attacks occurred.
Youths damaged the portable buildings on the site then threw several missiles, including stones and golf balls, at the workers.
Council parks officer Jo Birch has withdrawn the contract until after the summer holidays.
Coun Dick Wraith said it was typical of Wombwell’s youths to ruin such a vital facility.
He added: “I couldn’t believe it when I found out the contract had been postponed. It’s just typical - we are trying to improve Wombwell by putting play equipment in for children and then they go and ruin it."
