Plans for a 20 pitch gypsy site and traveller site at Pogmoor have been submitted to the council.
Dennis Lycett, former owner of a skip business, wants to create the site on the old skip yard on West Road next to the driving test centre.
Residents are concerned about the prospect. One said: "Everybody is absolutely up in arms about it."
