Copper piping has been stripped from the floodlights of an Athersley football club, putting its future in jeopardy.
Last year the club spent £65,000 on floodlights in an effort to move up to a semi-professional league.
Club secretary and manager Pete Goodlad said: "It's soul destroying. This could mean the end.
"You work hard for the community and you wonder if it's worth it when this happens."
It has been estimated repairs will cost between £15,000 and £20,000.
A police spokesman said: "It's a local community football club, I urge anybody with information to come forward."
No arrests have been made. Contact the police on 0114 2202020 quoting BX 88/2011 to report information about the incident.
