FIRE-FIGHTERS have been battling barn blazes in Worsbrough Dale for four days following a spate of arson attacks.

Fire bugs started fires in the barn and yard of Swaithe Farm just before midnight on Tuesday, and torched a barn at Swaithe View at about 11pm on Wednesday.

Horses at Swaithe View were led to safety and then fire-fighters arrived and stopped the flames spreading to the stables.

About 40 fire-fighters were called to the first incident, which involved more than 700 tonnes of straw and hay.

Several vehicles were also destroyed in the blaze, including tractors and a small truck.

Fire-fighters were still trying to keep the smouldering bales of hay under control on Wednesday night when they spotted flames 200 yards down the road at Swaithe View.

About 250 tonnes of straw were on fire and five engines were sent to the scene to try to stop it burning out of control.
