After one too many this reveller stepped off a train, stumbled backwards and fell underneath the carriage.

 

Passengers and staff at Barnsley station reacted quickly and managed to pull the woman to safety before the train set off.

 

She was taken to hospital with cuts and bruises following the incident this year. The train was delayed 20 minutes.

 

British Transport Police today released the footage to warn festive revellers over the dangers of being under the influence at train stations.

Inspector Graham Brides, of BTP, said: “This woman was lucky to only end up with a few minor injuries and, had it not been for the alertness of other passengers who helped her, we could have been dealing with potentially serious injuries.

“Over the Christmas and New Year period, we will have an increase of high-profile patrols by officers at stations to reassure rail staff and passengers and make them feel safe.

 

"We understand that at this time of year, with Christmas fast approaching, people will be out at parties and will be consuming alcohol."

He said as well as keeping passengers safe the force would be focussing on any drunks who get involved in loutish or criminal behaviour.

 

In light of this, the increased patrols will help to both reassure travellers and deter any anti-social behaviour.

 

Insp Bridges warned that officers would not hesitate to take action against anyone acting in a criminal or anti-social manner. "We will not tolerate anti-social behaviour or any form of aggression towards the rail staff who work hard to keep the services running."
