Emergency services have lifted a woman from the train tracks at Barnsley Interchange.

 

She was taken to the air ambulance which landed on the former YEB site off Harborough Hill Road.

 

She fell under the train when her mobility scooter fell from the platform.

 

British transport Police was made aware of the incident at about 2.40pm. A spokesman said: "Officers are working to establish the exact circumstances of the incident but it is believed the female was on a mobility scooter on Platform One which has travelled in to the path of an oncoming train.

"The female is conscious and breathing. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening."

Transport police have confirmed the lady involved in the incident was a 73-year-old from Monk Bretton.

A spokesman said: "She was trapped under the train for a short period of time before being freed by the fire service and taken to Northern General Hospital by air ambulance where she is undergoing medical assessment. Her condition has been described as serious.
