A team of detectives is trying to establish how a student from Barnsley ended up in a drainage ditch in a Manchester park.
Daniel Whiteley, 19, is studying English at the University of Manchester and was found with critical injuries in Plattfields Park, Fallowfield, at 5.45am on Tuesday.
Greater Manchester Police could not identify him until 36-hours later. A spokesman said he had been seriously assaulted. Specialist officers are supporting his family in Barnsley.
Detective Inspector Terry Crompton said: "A team of detectives remain dedicated to this case, to establish who assaulted Daniel before he was found."
