BARNSLEY midfielder Jon Russell has been named in the provisional Jamaica squad for this summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The 24-year-old hoped that his strong end to the Reds’ campaign, in which he scored five goals in as many games to finish on 11 in total, would earn him a place in Steve McClaren’s squad this summer. He is one of 60 players in the preliminary squad which will be cut for the Gold Cup which is being held in the USA and Canada in June and July.
The Reggae Boyz are due to play in the Unity Cup at Brentford’s ground, starting with a semi-final against Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday.
The winners will face either Ghana or Nigeria in the final.
Jamaica also have two World Cup qualifiers against British Virgin Islands and Guatemala in June.
