HOYLAND Common girl Lauren Taylor is raising awareness of Williams Syndrome with The Wiggles.
The condition which affects one in 18,000 children in the UK is characterised by medical problems including cardiovascular disease, developmental delay, learning disabilities and mobility issues.
May is the official awareness month for the condition, which Lauren has.
She was born weighing just 3lb 12oz and Lauren’s parents Katherine and Paul were not sure what the future would be for Lauren having never heard of this rare condition.
Despite the many challenges the 13-year-old faces and still continues to overcome, Lauren has become a super hero to her family and the wider community.
Lauren was the lucky winner of Barnsley Chronicle’s Young Champions Community Hero Award for raising awareness of her condition and the charity Williams Syndrome Foundation.
One of the aspects of Lauren’s condition is her true love of music and dance and so any kind of movement and sing a long songs brings her so much happiness.
From a very young age one of Lauren’s favourite television artists has been The Wiggles.
The Wiggles were formed in 1991 and are an Australian musical group inspired to create children’s music based upon concepts of early years education.
They recently met Lauren and the Williams Syndrome Foundation’s tag line is ‘Share Your Heart’ - something the group were more than happy to get involved with.
Katherine said: “Lauren has been singing and dancing to The Wiggles since she was around three years of age so when we saw they were touring in UK this year we knew we just had to try to get tickets.
“On being lucky enough to get tickets plus a special VIP meet and greet opportunity we kept it a secret from Lauren until the very moment we arrived at the Barbican Theatre in York.
“To say Lauren was excited was an understatement.”
