IT’S your move...
Not long after forming, Wath Chess Club were forced to go sideways with the temporary closure of Wath Library.
Fortunately they have a new base until the revamped library re-opens and the Church House pub is their new castle.
The group formed by Mark Steel meet on Thursdays between 5.45pm and 6.45pm.
Now they are after more people to come and play.
Mark said: “We have about eight people who regularly attend.
“We provide everything for free as the library and the pub do not charge for their space. I thought it was really good of them to give us a space to play.
“Chess seems to be popular at the moment.
“I started the club after finding a few chess sets from charity shops and car boot sales and these sets have enabled me to get the club going.
“I think the TV show, The Queen’s Gambit, has definitely helped the popularity. People are always talking about it.
“Young kids are interested too and anyone who would like to come along, even if they’re beginners, there will be someone there to give tips.
“People can just turn up, we’ve got loads of boards.”
