AN avid fundraiser for Weston Park Cancer Charity is set to walk to all four football stadiums in South Yorkshire to raise much-needed funds for the charity.
Carl Mellor, 43, from Goldthorpe, typically walks from ground to ground to raise money for the charity - and he’s raised more than £24,000 since he started his mission in 2019.
In 2018, Carl’s step-dad, Steven, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer caused by the HPV virus in his throat and neck.
He began radio and chemotherapy imminently at Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield - where he remained an inpatient for many months.
He was given the all-clear later that year and ever since Carl has been raising money for Weston Park Cancer Charity as a ‘thank you’.
His latest mission will see him start at Bramall Lane on June 14, then head to Hillsborough and the New York Stadium before arriving at Oakwell later in the day.
He told the Chronicle: “It’s about a 23-mile walk.
“We’re going to be setting off from Bramall Lane at 8am and then hopefully, after a few stops, we’ll be at Oakwell at around 5pm.
“Since 2019 we’ve raised about £24,000 which is great.
“The target for this walk is £750.”
