LOCAL councillor Hannah Kitching has been chosen to represent Penistone as the new town mayor.
Hannah, who represents the Penistone West ward and is the leader of the Lib Dems in Barnsley, chosen to represent the town as mayor by colleagues on Penistone Town Council at its recent annual meeting.
She said: “It is a huge honour to announce that I am Mayor of Penistone for the municipal year 2025/2026.
“While I will continue to represent Penistone on Barnsley Council, the role of town mayor is a civic duty, not a political post.
“I will chair Penistone Town Council meetings and represent Penistone at various civic events.
“I am particularly looking forward to the Mayor’s Parade and Gala on Sunday June 8 where we will be celebrating Pride in Penistone.
“We have an amazing team organising the event and have some very exciting acts booked in this year.
“We are hoping for sunshine and a fantastic family day out.
“The outgoing mayor, Coun Mandy Lowe Flello will be supporting me as deputy mayor.
“Mandy has been a fantastic town mayor for the last two years and I’d like to thank her for everything she does to support and celebrate our town and its community groups.”
