A documentary maker from Barnsley found out she had won a Royal Television Society Award after friends congratulated her the day after the ceremony.

 

Dr Joann Fletcher, originally of Dodworth Road, Barnsley, did not attend the glitzy bash on Tuesday night as she thought TV heavyweights Sir David Attenborough or Brian Cox would walk away with the science category.

 

The Egyptologist recreated the mummification process in an eight-year project with partner Dr Stephen Buckley which was filmed for Channel 4's Mummifying Alan: Egypt's Last Secret, in which Alan Billis was preserved using traditional Egyptian techniques.

 

"I never thought in my wildest dreams that we would win. It's as much for Alan and his family and everyone else involved than for us.
