JOE FERGUSON withdrew from the Great Britain squad for the European Team Championships in Madrid at the weekend.
The 25-year-old sprinter from Darton was set to take part in the 4x100m relay on Saturday.
But he pulled out of the event late last week, having been unable to recover from a minor hamstring problem he picked up the previous weekend when equalling his 100m personal best at a race in London.
Ferguson said: “It was disappointing to not be out there representing GB as it would’ve been a great opportunity.
“However I know that I’m in good shape, and thankfully the issue is nothing serious so I’ll be back to racing in the next couple weeks.
“There’ll be more opportunities this year before the trials so now the focus shifts to making sure I’m 100 per cent and ready to get back out there and do what I need to do.”
Great Britain finished third in the relay and fifth overall at the competition.
Ferguson is hoping to represent them at the World Championships in Tokyo this September in both the 200m and the sprint relay.
The British Championships take place on the first weekend of August.
