PUPILS and staff from Tankersley St Peter’s Primary School came together to celebrate the school turning 150 on Wednesday.
The fun and vibrant celebration, honouring the school’s long history at the heart of the community, saw children enjoy a party with music, dancing, sports and games.
Founded in 1875 by the Church of England as a girls’ school, Tankersley St Peter’s Primary has witnessed enormous changes over the decades, growing from a small village school to a thriving modern primary serving the local community.
The celebrations will continue into the next academic year with parents, grandparents and local residents having the opportunity to visit the school and view photographs, registers and other interesting artefacts as well as being able to listen to fond memories of former pupils.
Headteacher Vicky Harrison told the Chronicle: “This is a wonderful moment for our school. We are so proud of our history and of all the children and staff who have been part of Tankersley’s family.
“We really want our children to create lots of special memories during their time with us and learning about the past is an important part of their journey.”
