A LOCAL councillor is urging Yorkshire Water to act - and fast - over concerns around traffic and noise in Worsbrough.
Coun Jake Lodge is calling on Yorkshire Water to urgently address growing concerns from residents in the Worsbrough Dale area who live near the Edmunds Road water treatment facility, following continuous disruption and frustration caused by heavy site vehicle traffic and noise.
Residents have reported noise disturbances from site work and operations throughout the day and night, as well as significant traffic woes.
Coun Lodge has previously written to Yorkshire Water chief executive Nicola Shaw about his concerns and call for action and is in regular contact with the company about these issues.
He told the Chronicle: “We love where we live in Worsbrough, surrounded by peaceful countryside and residents deserve to live in peace and feel safe when out enjoying the TPT or walking their dog.
“I understand the need for this essential service, but the work being done at the Edmunds Road facility must not come at the expense of residents.’’
He is calling for a more co-ordinated approach to site deliveries, a review of operations after certain times and a more cohesive relationship with residents.
A spokesperson for Yorkshire Water said: “Worsborough is one of five wastewater treatment works in Barnsley to benefit from £11m investment to reduce phosphorus levels and an additional 1,000m³ storage capacity, to reduce the number of storm discharges flowing into local water courses.
“The site has experienced additional tankering whilst repairs to one of the lagoon tanks was carried out.
“This element of the work has completed which should result in fewer wagons and heavy plant in the area during the evening and work is currently underway during normal work hours to replace the existing aeration units with quieter, underground components.
“We are condensing activity so that we can keep disruption to a minimum.
“We would like to thank local residents for their patience as this important work is carried out and apologise for any inconvenience caused whilst this work is ongoing.”
