Barnsley coach Tom Harban was pleased with the 2-2 friendly draw at National League York City on Tuesday evening.

The hosts took the lead twice but Caylan Vickers and Adam Phillips levelled.

Harban said: “It was a good exercise for us. York are a very possession-based team who caused us problems at times. We had a sluggish start but once we got on top of it we dominated the game and were really aggressive against the ball.”

Phillips’ goal came from a fine pass by David McGoldrick.

“We have a bit of quality at the top end of the pitch. Didzy’s passing and vision for Phillo’s goal is top drawer. We’re really happy with the goals we’ve scored. We’re creating chances and getting in positions to score which is pleasing.”

Barnsley begin their season on August 2 at Plymouth Argyle, after a training camp from Wednesday until Saturday of this week including a behind-closed-doors on Friday.

Harban said: “Everybody is ready to go. We’re excited to get started. We’ve got one more fixture against good opposition coming up and a few days away with the lads which will be really beneficial, especially for the new lads. We can really get to know each other and hopefully it ends up being really positive and sets us up for positive week going into Plymouth.”

There were 772 Barnsley fans at York. Harban said: “Fantastic support, especially at the end when the lads were going over to them. They were loud and vocal. We’ve always had a fantastic support base at this club and hopefully we can give them something to shout about this season.”
