LOCAL councillors have slammed vandals who destroyed playground equipment at a Darfield park this week.
Couns Kevin Osborne, Pauline Markham and Trevor Smith, who represent the Darfield ward, reported the damage at Pinfold Park to Barnsley Council, who removed the vandalised equipment.
This week the council approved a £2.1m investment into Barnsley’s parks and open spaces.
The proposed funding will support a range of improvements, including new play equipment, footways, signage and entrance ways, planting and additional facilities, including bins and benches.
And the trio of councillors say it’s a shame that funding will have to be pulled from other projects to replace the equipment.
They told the Chronicle: “As representatives of the Darfield ward, we are deeply frustrated and angered by the recent vandalism of the children’s roundabout in Pinfold Park.
“This piece of equipment has unfortunately had to be removed for public safety, and we strongly condemn those responsible for this senseless act.
“It is truly a pity that vital funding now has to be diverted from other important projects to repair or replace the roundabout.
“We urge anyone with information regarding the individuals responsible to contact South Yorkshire Police.
“Our community’s wellbeing and the safety of our children are of utmost importance.”
