BARNSLEY pairing Becky Moody and her horse Jagerbomb are hoping to follow up their Olympic medal a year ago with more success at the European Dressage Championships next week.
The event is due to take place in Crozet, France from Tuesday until the following Sunday.
Becky, 45, from Gunthwaite, is looking forward to representing Great Britain again with her horse named after her grandfather Norman ‘Bomb’ Moody who was previously a director at Barnsley Football Club.
Moody told the Chronicle: “It’s my first time at the Europeans as a senior. I did it at junior and young rider level.
“We’re feeling positive and confident.
“There are a really strong group of horses and riders at the top.
“I think it will be good and exciting competition for the team medals.
“We have the same team from the Olympics who worked really well together last year.
“Individually, a top ten finish would be my goal.”
Jagerbomb has enjoyed an impressive 2025 so far. Moody said: “He’s had a really good season with some excellent results. He had a couple of second places at the World Cup qualifiers to Lottie Fry who ended up winning it.
“We did a big show in Germany and got a personal best. That was a really good result in top company.
“It’s a massive team effort.
“Although it’s only me and Bomb who trot down the centre line, there are tens of people involved in getting us there so a big shout out to all of them.”
It has been just over a year since Moody – who was a late replacement for the suspended Charlotte Dujardin – won Olympic bronze in the team dressage event in Versailles.
“It’s still very surreal. I like to, every so often, look at the photos to remind myself it actually happened. I am just so proud of the horse, he’s amazing and he’s getting better which is really exciting.
“He’s still relatively young and hopefully we can do even more.”
The next Olympics is in Los Angeles in 2028 but Becky and Jagerbomb are looking at closer challenges first.
“Next year there is the World Equestrian Games in Germany.
“That will be a phenomenal show. That is probably my goal for next year.
“We will maybe look at the World Cup but the final is in the States. The plus side of doing that would be checking he copes well with flying.
“LA would be amazing but it’s a long way away. It’s hard enough just keeping an athlete fit and well but keeping an athlete and horse fit and well is quite difficult. The important thing to me is that the horse is healthy and happy.”
As well as competing with Jagerbomb and her other horses, Becky runs equestrian training centre Moody Dressage with her sister Hannah.
“It’s hard because it’s a ridiculously costly sport to do. I’m still working really hard coaching because I need the money but also I really love it. I have lots of really great clients.”
