The new boxing season kicked off for local fighters at the Metrodome on Friday night and two Barnsley fighters were victorious.

Dempsey Wale and Jake Jon Cleary extended their winning records with points wins.

Wale, younger brother of the show's promoter Josh, saw off Mexican import Benito Sanchez Garcia 60-54.

Lightweight Wale had been out of the ring for ten months following the birth of his son and shook off some ring rust with a solid workout which took him to 14-0 (1 knockout).

The Brampton man was the one throwing the more meaningful shots throughout the contest.

Cleary opened up the show with a 40-36 verdict against Birmingham journeyman Lewis Varley.

The Wombwell welterweight made a strong start and managed to maintain dominance throughout the four-rounder.
