DEARNE Valley Bulldogs rugby league team missed out on the Yorkshire Division Four title on the final day as they lost 28-14 at Eastmoor Dragons in a winner-takes-all showdown.

Dearne were top on points difference before the game but finished in the second promotion place.

Ben Hartley, Will Chipchase and Alexander Billany scored tries with Steve Shaw converting one.

A club statement read: “Another cracking season with promotion and second place after narrowly losing on the last game of the season and also a tight loss in a cup semi-final game.

“This shows how the club is growing each year. We’re all looking forward to next season already.”

Meanwhile, former Bulldogs youngster and Wath Academy student Jamie Gill made his debut for Bradford Bulls this week.

He came off the bench in their 22-8 home win over Featherstone Rovers in the second division.

Dodworth Miners are due to host West Bowling in their Division Two play-off semi-final on Saturday.

They were awarded a walkover win against Illingworth in their last league game so finished second.

If they win their semi-final, they will play in the final the following week at Batley Bulldogs’ ground.

Dodworth are looking for a second successive promotion after winning last year’s play-off final.

Rycroft Hammers won 44-28 at home to Sheffield Hawks in their last Division Six game. There were two tries each for Josh Barrett and Chris Reall with one for Jamie Blakeston, Logan Clarke – his first for the club – Rich Barton and Harvey Coates.
