Patrick Kelly is on course to return to the Barnsley squad for their home game against Port Vale on Saturday.
The midfielder has missed the last three games since picking up an injury with Northern Ireland under 21s.
Head coach Conor Hourihane told the Chronicle: “The plan is that he will be involved at the weekend. That’s what we’re hoping for.
“He’s going to take part in more training. He’s been on the grass all this week. We’re hoping for him to be involved at the weekend.”
The long-term absentees are left-back Georgie Gent, centre-back Marc Roberts and forward Fabio Jalo.
“After the international break, preparing for Bradford (on October 18), we may have Robbo and Georgie around training sessions and they would be a couple of weeks away from games.
“Fabio is a bit further away and patience around him is probably the most important thing.”
