POLICE officers and a drugs dog were at Barnsley College last week to take part in an operation.
Drugs dog Elsa is trained to sniff out drugs and is often invited out to operations such as this one.
Officers from Barnsley Central’s Neighbourhood Policing Team worked with the college’s staff to provide advice and support to students around drug use, ensuring a safe learning environment for everyone to enjoy.
Sergeant Alun Oliver said: “Engagement events such as these are vital as it provides us with opportunity to speak to young people who may not want to approach us on their own.
“We were there to answer any questions both students and staff at the college had around the use of drugs and illegal substances, and the dangers these can bring.
“We know that drug use is a concern with parents and educational staff, and so we will continue to work closely with our partners and colleagues in these settings to tackle to supply of drugs and provide education.”
